Minors
Add valuable linguistic and cultural credentials to your degree. The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures (EALC) offers four focused minor programs designed to fit flexibly into any major’s academic schedule:
⚡ Fast-Track: How to Declare & Complete Your Minor
You do not need to schedule an advising appointment to declare or complete an EALC minor! The entire process is self-service and can be completed online.
- Check the Requirements: Review the specific course list on your chosen minor's page.
- Declare Online: Use the online application link located directly on the page of the minor you want to add.
- Track Your Progress: Once the minor is declared it will be added to your program plans in the Acadmeic Progress Report (APR) on CalCentral.
- Outside Courses: Minors may substitute one required course with a related course upon approval. Eligible courses include:
- Courses taken in another UC Berkeley department
- Courses taken through Study Abroad
- Transfer courses from another college or university
- Submit an Online Course Substitution Request if you want to substitute a course.
⚠️ Critical Deadline
You must submit your online minor declaration prior to the first day of classes of your Expected Graduation Term (EGT). For Summer graduates, minors must be declared prior to the first day of Summer Session A. Late declarations will not be accepted by the college.
