Marjorie Burge

Marjorie Burge holds a BA in Asian Studies from the George Washington University (2008) and earned an MA (2012) and PhD (2018) from the Department of East Asian Languages & Cultures at UC Berkeley. She previously taught at the University of Colorado Boulder, from 2019-2026. Her book manuscript, Unearthing Written Cultures of Early Korea and Japan, examines writing in the early Korean kingdoms of Silla and Paekche, and in early Japan, utilizing the archive of inscribed wooden slips known as mokkan. Her other research interests include methods of vernacular writing, early poetry from Korea and Japan in both vernacular languages and Literary Sinitic, and archaeology.
