Kelly Fan studies modern Chinese literature and media culture. She is broadly interested in how literary texts, film, photography, and other cultural forms register historical and political currents at the ambient yet material levels of atmosphere, environment, and the everyday. In pursuit of this question, she is drawn to theorizations of media, technology, affect, and infrastructure. She holds a BA in economics with a minor in English from Columbia University (2016) and an MA in Asian Studies from UC Berkeley (2021). Her MA thesis examines telephonic mediations of voice in early Republican-era sentimental love stories.
