Huang Program
Huang Scholars Opportunity Program
Starting from the summer of 2020, the Huang Scholars Opportunity Program will provide four summer internships and/or research opportunities to students majoring in East Asian Languages and Cultures. Dedicated to enabling EALC students to explore career options and opportunities for engaging with and developing their interests in East Asia, the Huang Scholars Opportunity Program will not only help match students to exciting internship opportunities in China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea or right here in the Bay Area, but also provide a $5,000 stipend towards travel and living expenses.
The program is open on a competitive basis to EALC majors and minors in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tibetan, and East Asian Thought and Religion. Applicants should exhibit a record of academic excellence, as well as the thoughtfulness, maturity, and independence of mind requisite to make full use of this opportunity. Huang Scholars will be expected to work actively with the Program's faculty committee to envision their ideal career path and identify an appropriate East Asian-related summer opportunity to allow them to pursue it. Graduating seniors are excluded from the Program.
We will hold an informational session about the program for EALC students on Friday, November 15 at 3pm in 3404 Dwinelle Hall.
Applications are due on Friday, December 6th. The application form will be posted on the EALC departmental website. Please send your completed applications by email to huangprogram@berkeley.edu.
