Xiaoyu Xia 夏小雨 is a PhD candidate in EALC with a Designated Emphasis in Film and Media Studies. She received her B.A. (2013) and M.A. (2016) in Chinese literature from Fudan University. Her dissertation, tentatively titled "The Typographic Revolution: Imperial Networks, Textual Infrastructure, and Literary Sensibility in China (1895-1937)," explores a new way of understanding modern Chinese literature by attending to the typographic interactions among China, Japan, and the West. In addition to the book-historical method that has informed her dissertation project, her research and teaching interests include Chinese literature, cinema, and media; modern Japanese and Japanese colonial literature; poetry and poetics; media technology; linguistic modernity and vernacularity; literary translation.
