Miyabi Modry Yamamoto received her M.A. and Ph.D. from the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at UC Berkeley with her dissertation on early twentieth-century Japanese and Korean women's texts. She has taught at Sarah Lawrence College (2011-2012) and Hamilton College (2012-2013) and now teaches at Centre College, a small liberal arts college in Danville, KY.
Her current research focuses on representations of young women, children, Zainichi Koreans, and other minority figures in Japanese popular culture including manga and other forms of popular texts. She is also involved in translation projects of Zainichi Korean authors and other contemporary Japanese writers.
