Noriko Knickerbocker

Japanese Language Program

With over 18 years of experience in Japanese language instruction, Noriko Knickerbocker holds degrees from universities in the United States and Japan. Her education includes a B.A. in English from Waseda University in Tokyo, with specialization in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, and an M.A. in Education from California State University, Chico focusing on Language Pedagogy and Second Language Acquisition. Prior to teaching at UC Berkeley, she taught at universities throughout California including California State University, Chico, UC Davis, UC San Diego, and Stanford University. Her teaching experience has involved a wide range of Japanese language learners, ranging from beginning undergraduates to advanced-level graduate and professional studies students. She develops her own teaching materials, integrating the Japanese language and culture into her curriculum in order to provide an enriched learning experience. She continually strives to create new and effective ways of teaching through her use of technology and a variety of media.
