Menghsin Cindy Horng
Menghsin Cindy Horng is a Ph.D. candidate in Chinese with a Designated Emphasis in Film Studies, with a B.A. from the University of Michigan. She is currently writing her dissertation on King Hu (Hu Jinquan), Mandarin language guopian, and the audible archives of Sinophone cinema, considering the role of sound production in Taiwan films during the 1960s and 1970s. This builds on her M.A. thesis, “Domestic Dislocations: Healthy Realism, Stardom, and the Cinematic Projection of Home in Postwar Taiwan,” a version of which was published in the Journal of Chinese Cinemas. Her work is supplemented and enriched by her canine companions and volunteering at the campus freeform radio station, KALX 90.7 FM.
